Beef Cattle

Our cattle herd has been bred by us as we aim to improve herd genetics and fertility traits. We are EU Accredited, MSA and LPA approved. We run 450 breeding females currently and feeder stock. In a usual year we aim to retain 80 heifers for herd improvement and future breeding.

Every single one of our animals are performance recorded. This includes weights at marking, preg testing, pre and post weaning, pre calving and more for young stock. All preg tests are recorded in weeks and DTC is monitored. All health records are kept and monitored. Bulls are semen tested every year.

Our cattle consist of 500 medium framed Angus. All bulls are from local studs. We run Angus bulls from Clunie Range, Texas Angus, Swanbrook and Ben Nevis.

Cattle are run in mobs of 80 and sorted according to traits. This allows us to target specific characteristics when buying bulls and joining. We aim to grow soft, well muscled animals with an even temperament and higher than 97% pregnancy and weaning rates.

Our females are joined in September for a June calving to coincide with our feed availability. All calves are born on to improved/native pastures or oat and lucerne crops where the cattle remain in top condition for improved lactation and pregnancy rates.

Our calves are weaned in February/March and educated with, dogs, horses and bikes along with our children. This is commonly an easy process as we like to spend a lot of time riding and driving around the calving mothers without any pushing. If you drive through our cattle you will often find that they come running up for a good sticky beak and lick.

Cattle are well looked after health wise with access to licks and follow a strict vaccination schedule. Worm tests are completed and drenched accordingly.
